Nicolette Wong is a Ph.D. candidate in Anthropology at the University of Pittsburgh. She currently studies how digital technology interacts with one’s offline reality and ideologies. Specifically, her dissertation looks at how dating app users in urban China navigate online dating while keeping in mind the cultural, economic, and political landscape the users inhabit. She has always been interested in social behaviour, even from a young age. Nicolette Wong is a Ph.D. candidate in Anthropology at the University of Pittsburgh. She received her MSc in Sociology from the University of Oxford. She currently studies how digital technology interacts with one’s offline reality and ideologies. Specifically, her dissertation looks at how dating app users in urban China navigate online dating while keeping in mind the cultural, economic, and political landscape the users inhabit. She has always been interested in social behaviour, even from a young age. Between the ages of 13 and 17, she manifested her observations into short stories published in The Star newspaper. As of December 2020, Nicolette leads user research at Perlego (the Spotify for textbooks), a London-based startup founded by Forbes 30 Under 30’s Gauthier Van Malderen and Matthew Davis. When not engaged in research, Nicolette can be found in deep discussions about various social phenomena while drinking bubble tea.
